Here is my latest letter to the editor in regard to my experience with trying to get my vote to count. I'll update this post with information if I hear back from the OWH or the Nebraska Republican Party.
My Vote Didn't Count
Nebraska’s May 13th primary was a non-binding vote by Republicans. What this means is that my vote on May 13th did not count, and thus it did nothing in regard to nominating the Republican candidate at the national convention. With this information in mind I went forward with the process of getting my vote to count.
Earlier this year I signed up at the Douglas County Election Office to be a delegate from my precinct at the Douglas County Republican Party Convention. At the county convention I was elected to attend the state convention and at the state convention elected to the national convention as one of the 21 at-large delegates. I went through the effort, campaigned, and paid the cost of attending county, state, and national conventions so that my vote would count.
At the Republican National Convention, the Nebraska Republican Chairman did not report my vote to the secretary of the convention over the microphone. Of the thirty-three delegates from Nebraska to the convention, two of us voted for a different candidate. (For the record John McCain received thirty-one votes from Nebraska and the two other votes were recorded as “pass” votes even though these delegates did in fact vote for a different candidate.)
After all of this work my vote still didn’t count.
